Hello,

we are currently having new floor tiles installed in our kitchen. (60x60 rectified porcelain stoneware) and I wanted the grout lines to be as small as possible.

Now the nice man installed them without any grout lines and assured me several times that this works, and I believed him. But now I have read up on it because I thought that grout lines are not made just for fun, but they do have a purpose.

Now I am reading everywhere that this is not really good. What could happen here?

Thank you very much

Dave

Truly groutless? If you have read that it is not good, then you probably also know what can happen. It says it everywhere when you google "Fliesen fugenlos verlegen"!

How are the tiles supposed to relieve tension without grout? It’s just like with parquet, only that tiles can then crack/break.

Tiling used to be a master craft, now anyone with no idea is allowed to lay tiles.

Hello,

yes, seamless, really exactly next to each other. I have attached a photo, I hope you can see it. I am curious whether the gentlemen will be allowed to come back soon and redo everything. It is all on account, after all.

But thank you very much for the feedback.

Dave

Well then, you know what to do. Have it torn out and relaid according to [DIN].

You can have them come over now... It’s only a matter of weeks before material starts to chip there. Normally, the tiler informs you in advance about what can happen and that you lose your warranty claims if you want it like this. Are you sure nothing like that was mentioned to you anywhere?

Ok, thank you very much for the information. I will wait now... The only thing I said is to clean the joint as small as possible. As a layman, I of course have to rely on the gentleman on what is possible.

According to a parquet master, our parquet is also impossible to do without later cracks, and now it has almost 30 years on its back without a single crack.

But thank you very much for the quick tips and I am very glad to have done everything officially with an invoice.
