Tile walls before floors?

Hello,

our GU surprised me today with the inquiry about when we would be finished with the painting, as he wants to schedule the tiler soon.
I replied that the screed still needs at least 5 weeks to dry – that was also the time I gave to the painter, with the note that he should start in the utility room and then arrange the rest relatively freely within this period.
My GU then said: The walls could already be tiled now, we should just have the ceilings painted in the bathrooms and the upper part of the walls.
I said that I would try to arrange or accelerate that.

Now, after the conversation, I am wondering: Can the walls really be tiled before the floors? Don’t you usually lay the floor first and then “install” the wall tiles on it?
I have the suspicion that this approach might cause problems that wouldn’t otherwise occur.
Maybe he would already cover the edge of the floor, I am familiar with such patchwork solutions from him by now, but that is also bad, the screed has to be sanded. And whether the middle of the floor would come together then...

Help, I am not clear on this.
Is this a great idea and should I do everything for it, or could it rather turn out badly for the quality of my tiling work?

Regards

Our tiler (floors and walls) started with the walls (also because of residual moisture in the floor) and finished everything there except for the bottom row of the walls. Then the floor below the tiled walls was done at some point, and finally, the bottom row of wall tiles was installed.

Of course, this only works if the tiler knows the exact measurements and can take measurements accordingly.

For us, the coordination ultimately worked well.

However, why paint before tiling? How are the tile edges worked on if they are not yet glued to the wall? I am thinking about the skirting area and also the bathrooms. Depending on the tiler, there must be endless touch-ups.

Hello Thanks for your experience, that actually seems doable. Yes, everything will need to be touched up, including the bases in all rooms. We discussed this with the painter, but he didn't find it dramatic. Nevertheless, he seemed to prefer to basically paint everything first now. At the moment, neither doors nor switch covers nor floor coverings, nor a wooden staircase that he would have to carefully tape off, are installed. There is also currently a small scaffold in the stairwell that he can use. Apparently, from a workload perspective, this makes sense for him.

I would also paint everything beforehand and touch it up later - significantly less stressful to paint.

Thanks. Always good to hear how others see it.

Let's do it that way as well. Currently, the wall tiles are being installed, the fleece in the remaining rooms, and then painted. So everything before the floor coverings, electrical work, etc. Only the bathrooms will receive the fine plaster later. The door, etc., should be installed for that.
