Hi, we also had about 1/3 die. It was due to the missing watering. We immediately countered and installed a soaker hose. Thujas need a lot of water in the first two years, after that they are self-sufficient.

There are so many beautiful hedges, but thuja are not among them. Cherry laurel is also not suitable as a hedge. Otherwise, as a single plant, quite nice.

Then name an alternative for a beautiful great evergreen hedge. Yew would still be great from my point of view, but it grows too slowly or is way too expensive if you want to have large plants.

Yews? Cemetery plants and poisonous from wood through needle to fruit.

These two plant species offer native insects and birds hardly any nutritional value or habitat. Considering the enormous insect decline for years, this choice is unfortunate. Therefore, alternatives are being promoted.
