The neighbor's crane site should be on our property

Keep in mind that if the neighbor has problems, you have a crane on the property. I would set rules but of course not forbid it.

I believe the opinion is clearly half and half ;-)

We will start a few weeks later anyway, hopefully the crane will be gone by then. But with such a huge project, you shouldn’t just assume that everything will go as planned: If their construction is delayed, we have extra costs: - moving in later means paying rent longer, possibly paying financing costs longer, and with a lot of bad luck even a price increase from the provider (our price guarantee expires shortly after the planned construction start) - if a third party sets up the crane site and then our construction company’s crane slips/falls/etc (I realize this is an absolute worst case), who then takes responsibility?

Actually, something like this belongs in a proper contract. But that just doesn’t fit with the general attitude of most here: "have a beer, it’ll be fine"
