Hello everyone,

I am currently building our terrace.
What worries me at the moment is the transition from the terrace to the living room. The height difference will be about 40 cm when the terrace is finished.

How do I install a staircase there?
It should be mentioned that we have an [WDVS] around it.

I planned to build a formwork and pour the staircase solidly out of concrete and then tile it.

But how do I do that at the [WDVS] transition?

Do I cut out the [WDVS] under the terrace door, then put a thin styrofoam board there and then pour the concrete?

Because there definitely has to be a gap between the house wall and the concrete stairs since the material expands and contracts.

Best regards

Cutting out insulation = thermal bridge

When the full thermal insulation is cut out, a thermal bridge forms at the contact point between the concrete step and the base slab. This is not recommended.

I took a look at the photos from your construction blog. It seems that the base slab is not insulated at all. Was the frost skirt excavated afterwards and insulated down to the footing, or does the ETICS simply end on the ground, as shown in the photos?

Hello,

no, the [WDVS] ends somewhere in the ground.
In the picture it seems like it only goes up to the ground but in reality about 40 cm was piled up around the house. The splash guard is also not directly attached to the [WDVS] but there is a 4 cm thick Styrofoam panel in between.

The terrace was compacted then about 30 cm of gravel was applied and compacted, then I applied the grit, here too the [WDVS] is somewhere in the ground.

Which would mean the concrete stairs would (if I cut out the [WDVS]) partially rest on it.

How else should I realize the stairs?
By now I have come close enough to the terrace door with grit and 4 cm thick panels that I don’t need a step anymore, it’s just a bigger step. But it would be nicer with a step.

Best regards
