Hello dear community,

I newly registered here because I have a technical question and need your advice.

We have built a bungalow-style house and now want to roof the terrace over an area of 6 meters wide and 4 meters deep. I would like to do this myself with a kit.

The 2 attached pictures roughly show our idea, although I am unsure if the space between the terrace door and the roof box (approx. 28 cm) is sufficient. The third picture shows our terrace with the corresponding measurements. Is it conceivable that I could slightly reduce the thickness of the beams that are directly under the roof box? Or is there something that can be done about the slope so that I don't lose so much height at the end of the terrace?

Maybe someone has faced the same problem before and was able to solve it. I look forward to feedback.

Best regards, Bros aka Torsten

Where is the customer image from? Stolen from a provider’s homepage? What does Mr. "Customer" say about it? Did you ask? I request a statement, and we will delete the image again if necessary.

P.s. For 28sqm, as far as I know, a building permit and a structural calculation are required.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome here in the forum. I thought I could also show a picture that is currently used by 6 dealers on Google under the term "Andria Terrassenüberdachung" as a sales image.

Uhm, regarding the second qualified entry: that depends on the federal state, municipality, and development plan, and for us it is approval-free up to 50 sqm!

Well then, watch out that a maximum depth of 3m is not considered as a second criterion for approval exemption. For example, that is the case here with us in NRW. I have just had a patio roof realized under similar conditions. Clear height under the roof overhang 261 cm, passage height under the end of the patio roof just under 205 cm, roof pitch approx. 8.4°. Since your roof will be one meter deeper, it will have slightly less pitch. At least around 5° it should be in my opinion. Most constructions have a wide range of use there.

However, in my roof the so-called statics are located below, i.e. the rafters lie below the glass level. Therefore, the wall connection rail could be mounted almost flush under the roof overhang. To see how the proposed kit fits with you, a detailed drawing of the situation at the wall connection with the height of the beams above the upper edge of the wall connection rail would be needed. If the overall structure there is higher than the wall strip between the upper edge of the window/patio door to the house roof, it does not fit. I would not cut anything off the rafters, otherwise any warranty or guarantee from the kit manufacturer and also their static calculation will expire.

I also wish you lots of fun with the mounting drillings. Some will lie in the steel-reinforced lintel of the window and patio door. You cannot get in there so easily, but then you have a secure hold. For me, the drillings went as planned into the ring beam above the exterior walls. That was fun for the guys too. However, they had professional tools.

How much is the kit supposed to cost? My patio roof 3x6 m cost under 5,000 Eur including foundations and assembly. With 10 years warranty on the construction and 8mm safety laminated glass. That stopped me from trying it myself with a kit.
