Dear homeowners,
The picture from the 3D simulation shows our terrace on the first floor facing south. It is about 9.5m wide in the middle (as can be seen, the terrace becomes slightly wider towards the open south side) and 3.5m deep. A frame construction runs over the terrace, as shown. Now there is consideration whether we should put a glass roof on this frame construction.
Advantages and disadvantages we have identified so far:
+ Weather protection for the terrace and the furniture placed there as well as the sliding windows leading to the terrace
+ Longer usability of the terrace also during the transitional seasons and on cooler summer evenings
- Terrace is no longer as airy, almost like a conservatory, as for example the west side is partially closed off by the house wall
- Could be very expensive (any experience?)
Otherwise, there must be good shading options (even without a glass roof). Now the question is whether the heat under the potential glass roof would build up excessively despite shading, making the terrace practically unusable in midsummer. Does anyone have experience or an opinion on this?
Are there alternative ideas, maybe a louvered roof that can be opened and closed as needed...?
I am very grateful for input, best regards!
