I am somewhat sensitive to noise and want to have peace when I relax on the terrace in the evening. Unfortunately, I live wall-to-wall with my neighbors, so I want to install terrace partition walls with sound insulation. I would be interested to know what material your partition walls are made of and how much you can still hear your neighbors (conversations, etc.). I was thinking of a 25 cm thick fence gabion to dampen the sound. Do you think that would help? What are your experiences with your terrace partition walls regarding sound insulation?

I don’t know if gabions are suitable as sound barriers; I think the highly porous material is difficult to assess acoustically. There can be gaps caused by the clustering of differently shaped stones that allow sound to pass through almost unimpeded. Soundproof walls made of composite material (e.g. wood plus diffuser foam) work more reliably in that regard. There are several terrace partition wall systems; it’s best to ask at the garden center.

At this point, we also need to take action. We will erect a wooden wall and fill it with foam or wood wool. Whether it will bring the desired result remains to be seen.

In any case, the manufacturers are convinced.

Hi,

I have also undertaken that, but am not satisfied with the result. It does insulate a little, but not much. I had great hopes in the construction method and the materials. But it didn't help much.

Good, I once had a gabion fence in mind as well. I also want to enclose our terrace. One part is 2.00 meters high and 1.00 meter wide. The thickness is 20 cm. As a privacy screen, it's wonderful, but whether it blocks noise is difficult to assess.

Therefore, I am also looking for people who have current experience with it.

Something has been done for soundproofing in our office. We also have light partitions and now insulation panels made of mineral wool have been installed here. It is noticeably quieter now. But miracles should not be expected.
