Hello everyone,

we have a double-wing terrace door in our living room and a single-wing door in the kitchen. Now we are faced with the choice between a standard threshold (about 8 cm) and a low threshold (about 2 cm). The lower threshold would involve an additional cost.

The higher threshold will probably be the norm among the members here. I wanted to ask if there are any who have a low threshold and what their experiences with it are.

Regards,
Alex

What is the surcharge supposed to be? We will then also be faced with a choice.

A low threshold is something one of our neighbors has: wheelchair users.

It is certainly convenient and also more aesthetically pleasing, but the additional cost .....

The surcharge is about 500 euros. Considering the amount you ultimately spend on a house, not much. But every little bit counts...
If I later enjoy the low threshold every day, the surcharge is definitely worth it to me.

The reason (fortunately) has nothing to do with accessibility.

I recently talked about the topic with a friend who is a carpenter and will also install the windows/doors. He said a low threshold is more of a tripping hazard than a normal one. You definitely have to lift your foot...

Alex

Definitely the low threshold. It looks significantly better (especially if the terrace connects directly from the outside) and reduces the risk of tripping. The additional cost can only be minimal, right?
