Hello everyone,

in our land purchase contract it says that we have to retain a certain amount of rainwater and discharge it into a sewer with a time delay.

What exactly does that mean? I googled it and found a cistern for rainwater. Is that something like that? What costs will we incur? Does anyone know? Is there a cheap alternative? Do you also have such requirements?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, we also had such requirements. The rainwater from the roofs has to be directed somewhere. The costs can be attributed to the earthworks in the ancillary construction costs. There are several ways to drain rainwater, one is more ecological (reuse of the water), the other cheaper. We have a concrete shaft, called a rainwater cistern, without further use and, including earthworks, was about 5000 three years ago, the cheapest version. That’s what we were told.

Oh... 5000€ is not exactly a small amount either. :( Hmm... Thank you very much already for your quick response! Best regards!

Oops, I think the 5000 also included the connection of the sewage shaft. We had that all done together. I correct myself and apologize greatly for the caused shock :)

Hahaha! No problem.. We need the connection anyway... ;-) But like that it actually sounds a bit more bearable ;)

Hello Milanni,

it is included in a similar form in my land purchase contract as well. As already mentioned, this is no longer uncommon and whether you choose plastic or concrete cisterns is certainly a matter of price/performance as well as handling.

The size of the cistern also depends on other factors such as the requirements, as well as the rainfall in your region / property size, what you ultimately plan to do with it, and so on. Yvonne has already explained the rest perfectly.

Regards, Andi ;)
