Hello everyone,
since I have already had so many good experiences here, I just have to ask a question again. We live in a new building with a southwest terrace (3.3 x 6 m). Last year, we used a gifted sun umbrella with a diameter of four meters to shade the terrace. Unfortunately, despite its size, the umbrella was always in the "wrong" position, and I would have had to place it on the lawn to shade the terrace.
Therefore, with two small children, something new is needed.
I would prefer a fixed construction with a louvered roof or similar, but unfortunately, that is not really affordable at the moment.
So now we are considering getting an awning. Here we have the problem that on the south side of the terrace there is still a downpipe, which the developer installed 60 cm towards the terrace. We have therefore thought about an awning measuring 5x3.5 or 5x4 meters with a valance. Power connection would also be available. The valance is partly for the low sun and so that the children can also play in the shade on the terrace floor.
One of the consultants advised against the valance because it is very susceptible to the wind and would constantly swing. He only recommended the deeper awning to block the evening sun. Whether that is enough, of course, you only see when it’s too late.
What are your experiences with a southwest terrace? Is an awning worthwhile as an adequate sunshade? Or is there perhaps a better solution? Currently, we have an offer for a Weinor awning with a valance, fully electric, 5x3.5, for about 6000 euros.
I would be very happy to receive a few tips and suggestions.
