In summer, the sun is quite vertical when it is in the south. This is why [Raffstores] are very effective. I don't have any myself, but I can imagine that a slight downward tilt is enough to block the remaining sun while still allowing light into the rooms.

You can only find out what works for you individually by experimenting. Every house is different, every person is different. We don't have Venetian blinds; in good weather, many windows and doors are open here, including the entire south side. But we never sit inside the house, always outside. In the evening, we create a strong draft. The door to the bedroom in the northeast remains closed during the day as well. We've been doing this very successfully for three years.

Hello,

the slat position depends on the season and also on the time of day. You can calculate the exact solar angles online with solar position simulators (Azimuth and Elevation) if you want to know precisely. Depending on how your blinds are controlled, this should ideally be automated. If control is only possible via push buttons, it is usually sufficient to tilt them to 55-60% in the south. The west is problematic because the sun is at all heights there. In the evening, the blinds must be almost completely tilted if the sun should not enter the house (assuming an unobstructed view of the sun).

Basically, your house will warm up at some point in the summer anyway; the insulation only delays this. Then you just have to ventilate properly in the evening.

Best regards

Thank you all - I have understood summer so far. Only winter I am still struggling with a bit, or the statement that you could save heating costs with venetian blinds is just nonsense, right?

Hello,

the sunlight in winter saves heating costs, so you can definitely save with [Raffstores]. During the heating period, they must be adjusted so that the sun can shine into the house or fully opened. Even if they are positioned horizontally, at least part of the energy is still reflected into the room. A [Rollo] completely blocks out the sun.

Best regards

Yes, that's nonsense!

Because they don't insulate anything and only reduce solar gains.
With roller shutters, it might be that when closed they have a small insulating effect.
