Hello everyone,

We are expecting a baby and have an open staircase with a steel stringer staircase (see pictures).

Sorry for the unfortunately outdated pictures: The intermediate sections are now filled with glass, as you can surely imagine.
Now I have the following problem: Which stair safety railing could I install here? On the right side, I would have the wall as a bracket - but on the left, unfortunately, I have nothing except the glass elements...

If I want to install the safety railing on the first step (somehow you could probably fiddle it in), then I would have the problem that the gap at the lowest step is too large --> in other words: I would have to attach the railing at the very bottom - unfortunately, I lack the mounting surface on the left here.

Do you have any ideas or were you possibly in exactly the same situation and found a suitable solution? I am grateful for any tips/advice!

Honestly, not with this design. The classic little gate (?)

I mean the 4 elements on the ground floor, not under the handrail towards the upper floor - here everything is of course like in the picture :D

Mhm, what is the classic little gate?

The garden gate that you hang or clamp at the top of the exit, which prevents the toddler from using the stairs unattended. You can of course also attach it at the bottom end. It has an adjustable universal size and should be found on every local giveaway and classifieds portal, but it doesn’t cost a fortune new either.

Unfortunately, I can’t install it at the bottom end because the steel is set further inward and I no longer have an anchoring point. So I could only attach the stair gate on the first step—that wouldn’t be a problem—but then I have the problem that the bottom step is open down towards the cellar.

At our place, everything looks similar to this:

Unfortunately, our problem is that it’s open 2.5 meters downwards xD

I have considered simply strapping the bottom step downward with a crossbeam—I just haven’t found the right one yet, which is why I’m asking here in the forum.

Otherwise, just wedge some kind of telescopic pole underneath or something, if you have any concerns?
