Exactly. Why should I take the risk? Gone is gone. That is my humble opinion. With ETFs, you can only gain a few euros more. But lose several thousand.

One should specify what is meant by "ETF." Diversified portfolio? Then positive return expectations with a long-term investment horizon, just don't sell when the cannons fire ;) Speculator ETF? Niche theme ETF? That would be something else.... But from the text, it sounds more like the former.

Yes, it would be a world ETF, without going into more detail about the exact product. That would take us too far. I see the risk as rather low, since the money either flows into the ETF now or in monthly installments when the loan has been repaid early and then more is available monthly. The goal here is already to invest long-term for the retirement gap. However, you are probably right that it is too small peanuts to worry about too much.

Why either or? You can diversify the risk by only making a partial prepayment. And if the ETFs are far down at the end of the fixed interest period, then simply extend the loan at the current interest rate to speculate on a market recovery. That works too. For the small amount, I would rather take the risk.

well, if you go all in you can also lose. I would stick to the plan and make special repayments and invest in ETFs in parallel. So save monthly

We paid off our loan early because being debt-free was and is very important to me. The bank advisor did point out that we would have had a higher return if we had invested the money. My husband would have preferred that too, but he conceded for my sake. For me, it’s about the mental "burden" of always having in the back of my mind that something is still not settled. And I felt really liberated when it was done.
