Hello everyone,

I have a carport that is in a very unfavorable location for an electrical installation. Nevertheless, I would like to have a 220V socket for maintaining the charge of the battery of my motorcycle (12V) and at the same time it would be great if an LED lamp could be installed so that I can see something even in the winter months when it gets darker outside.

My idea would be a solar system but I have no knowledge of solar technology, so I am dependent on tips!!! I only know that a friend of mine has a solar system on his garden shed and with it a refrigerator and a TV are powered...

Regards vcorde

Hello Vcorde,

it is quite possible to install a photovoltaic system on the carport.
You need to examine whether a usable orientation (to S, SE, SW) towards the sun is possible and whether the roof area is sufficient for your purposes.
If you need electricity also during darker times of the day, you will need batteries for storage, which, however, must be protected from cold, especially in winter.
A solar system on a garden shed is one thing, getting electricity from your own solar system all year round is another.

Contact a solar technician who can best advise you on site.
Whether you will have continuous and sufficient electricity throughout the winter is, as said, questionable - but the solar technician will be able to explain this to you as well.

With a topic like this, I would always consult a "professional," that way the "solar system" can be perfectly aligned and you can get tips. This way you can be sure that you can really "produce" a bit of electricity.

Hello Vcorde I installed 3 kW of photovoltaic panels on my carport roof in August 11, but with grid feed-in. Based on my experience, I could also design a so-called "off-grid system" for you.

I installed a solar system on the roof of my father's carport in the summer. This carport is made of a metal structure, and that was a good condition for the installation. The roof measures 36 sqm and I installed a solar system of 5.5 kilowatts. It was also a complete system, and this allows for significant energy savings.

What Mattia described, I find that okay. I am also considering that and I plan to build a new carport anyway. The idea with the metal construction is a good one.
