Hello! I am new here - but I hope I am in the right place. I am in the process of buying a "renovated" house. One of my thousand worries and questions is whether one can simply omit the sill at a basement window (see attachment)? I think that is a serious defect.

Sill is meant to be the same as windowsill? If yes, everyone will give you a tired smile when you talk about a "serious defect" ;-)

Yes, [Fensterbank außen] is meant. I'll put it differently: does one belong there or not?

For that, you need an external image. However, I would assume – since it is purely a utility basement – that no external windowsill was required during the original construction of the house.

Why do you think this constitutes a defect? Especially since you are buying second-hand?

Attached is the photo. The house I want to buy has been renovated... and I fear it was done sloppily. Therefore my question: should there actually be a windowsill there? Is it also okay without a windowsill?
