Hello everyone,
we had our living room professionally plastered and painted. It was mineral fine plaster on the corners; the ceiling was not plastered but wallpapered. Afterwards, the painter suggested painting the walls with silicate paint since this is better for the plaster and positively influences our room climate. We agreed to this, and he painted the entire living room with the paint ([HAWO, Silikatfarbe innen]).
After we moved in, we noticed a strong unpleasant odor in the living room. Since we also had the floor newly done (laminate), we thought it was coming from that and that the smell would dissipate. Now almost three months have passed, and the odor persists stubbornly. I then walked through the whole room to locate the source of the smell. It seems that the odor primarily comes from the ceiling ([Silikatfarbe auf Tapete]) and a part behind the kitchen ([Silikatfarbe direkt auf Gips Wand]). The normal walls seem to be not or significantly less affected by the odor problem.
Does anyone have similar experiences or can explain the odor problem? I will also speak to the painter about it, but in the current situation, that will probably be difficult.
Best regards
