Hello Klaus,

With all due respect - with this attitude, no builder would have dared to undertake the adventure of building a house in recent years; yet their houses are still standing. Using a sledgehammer to crack a nut has never been a sensible decision.

You have to be aware that a drainage system requires permanent maintenance and care. If you have a verifiably reputable and good BU as a temporary construction partner at your side, you should also place your trust in him.

Rhine regards

It is a drainage system. Well, building expert, you just think about these things. From all sides you hear, the basement is the number 1 problem in house construction. And I can’t get to it anymore without much effort. That’s why I would like to be on the safe side here. There is nothing worse for me than a wet basement. Trust or no trust, after 5 years the general contractor is gone and I’m alone with the problem if something happens then.

A basement is only a problem if builders consider themselves smarter than the expert; if a soil survey is omitted and simply bought cheap instead of smart. On the other hand, a basement is undeniably a very expensive storage room if the space is not used for living purposes.

If you prefer to believe the anonymous reports from the WWW rather than your 2 _independent_ experts, then buy the sealing according to DIN 18195 Part 6 "Waterproofing against externally pressing water and rising seepage water" (commonly known as White Tank). Then your mind is at ease, but you will have to live with never knowing whether the effort was actually necessary. Perhaps that is better for you.

Rhineland regards

With a real white tank, normally nothing is masked off - then I would already have one.

: please don’t take offense to this attack on your professional honor! I am actually very grateful for your feedback. I am not questioning anything here, I am putting it up for discussion and I hope to gain insights as to whether I am well-advised by the recommendation of the general contractor or not. Maybe one or the other builder has already gained experience with it and would act differently in hindsight – in one direction or the other. White tank – as one reads – is very complex in execution, a lot can go wrong, but it can be produced faster and is therefore supposed to be cost-neutral.
