Aha... out of 75 hotel rooms, there were "some" who take pride in delivering good work, even if that means losing money because they completely miscalculated with the new one. How many is that? 5? 10? Even with 10, that would be just 13% and thus absolute confirmation of 11ant's statement... because 87% then have less pride and, if in doubt, just try to get the stuff done somehow, no matter how...

I can tell you from 15 years of professional experience in special plant construction... When you have companies doing something for the first time, it goes badly 90% of the time, unless you assign someone who watches their fingers all day long. A good example was when we had 50Hz electricians wire a system with several FUs... almost everything had to be redone, no shielded cables, reserve in the ring, shields either missing or even worse only applied on one side, etc. a complete disaster. They were not aware that there are no electromagnetic disturbances in their work area...

You wouldn’t come up with the idea of hiring a regular roofer who then is supposed to cover your roof with slate or thatch... you get the one who does that every day, can do it, and has a lot of experience.

I only said that the exemplary / praiseworthy are unfortunately neither the rule nor what the competition sets as its own standard. The "what you shout into the forest" effect, that people with the client mentality of the type or significantly less often have to deal with decorations of their respective offices on the contractor side, we have already dealt with here several times. The regular or at least clear majority case is unfortunately that the contractor side is prepared for a stingy client side and thus "responds" by aligning their work to the "recognized rules of as-always."

However you want to interpret that again... it is unfortunately a romantically naive notion that a significant portion of craft businesses feel their honor touched by an unusual order and go the extra mile to prove something to the client. By the way, it is no different for me personally, we are sometimes overwhelmed with work to the extent that special requests are simply annoying and you want to complete them as efficiently as possible, not especially nicely.

I see it exactly the same way. That is why it is so important to make sure you find these at all when it comes to quality, because you cannot buy the attitude of a business partner.

I'll give a very simple example of how a skilled craftsman who loves his trade executes work. Instead of just saving time and making a few straight cuts to somehow "patch" a wooden cover around the gutter and the edge sheet, he creates a piece of wood that fits the situation properly. If the company encourages its own people to act in this way, as a client you have basically already won. Of course, such a company cannot offer the cheapest price. I love these thoughtful solutions and overall they simply create high quality.
