You have to do both, there is no "instead". At least not in 99% of cases. I can imagine pure suspension of repayment starting from 5% savings in funds. Purely in shares never.

What do you mean by 5% in funds (of the total outstanding debt? About 25k/year?). Did I understand that correctly? I want to repay little (optimally 1%) and prefer to invest in stocks. If my strategy becomes too time-consuming or I want to reduce risk, I will repay through special repayments.
