The extension of the deadline is not a regulation that the building authorities have to push to the limit. But they will certainly exploit it with the argument of Corona and the construction boom. Try to put pressure on the building authority. I am currently wondering whether the submission date or the approval date is decisive for the [Baukindergeld].

The decisive date is the earliest you are allowed to start construction. So the issuance of the building permit or [Vollständigkeitsbescheinigung] plus waiting period (depending on the federal state).

An unpleasant thought, but you might be right.

I agree with my predecessors and also believe that one should contact the building authority politely and explain the situation. I see no reason why a process that could take one month until 12/31/2020 should suddenly take three months from 01/01/21. Surely there is some time flexibility for the caseworkers. The employees often have children themselves and therefore understand your situation.

For us, it is the classic period of 1 month. The response came after one week. So even if I have to admit that authorities and also building authorities can sometimes be really ... difficult ..., it does not mean that they have to be.

Thank you very much for your answers. In any case, I take away that there were also some positive examples. One week would of course be great!

We have already contacted the building authority and promptly received a response. There were also some platitudes – about how I have the right to contact the responsible representatives of my district. But there was also the tip that instead of a building application, one could possibly switch to a building notification (§62 Brandenburg Building Code). This is usually processed much faster. We have now passed this information on to our architect for the time being. Let’s see what comes of it.

P.S.: Regarding the topic of wasteful spending. If I had no children, I might partly be on the side of the opponents of the Baukindergeld. But if you’re not rich, having or not having €36,000 is a huge, fat difference. I think most here will support me in this opinion.
