Hello everyone,

an acquaintance claims that for showers/shower trays longer than 140 cm, you could do without the (glass) door because the water doesn't reach that far. What are your experiences with this? Is it also worthwhile financially (cost of glass door vs surcharge from 90 to 140 cm, e.g. for steel/enamel)?

Our shower is 1.55 meters long. When I shower, a little water splashes out at the front, but only a little. That's why there's a bath mat there. Why do you want to use a shower tray? If you have the space to make the shower that long, make it a walk-in shower.

You are probably right, ground level is better. I hope that works with glass doors all around. Now I want to introduce another theory. Thesis: It is better if the wet room is enclosed all around, because then the splashes collect and flow down as a trickle into the drain. This also means less moisture overall in the room and the shower dries faster afterwards.

We have 120 length without a door. The first tile (30cm) gets wet during longer stays under the rain shower. When using the normal shower, everything outside stays dry.

However, we still have a 30cm element for the entrance area at a 90-degree angle to the long glass wall.

Some people probably shower with 3l/h! Sure, then even with a 90 cm shower without walls it stays dry… :D

Bottom line: 1.50 m without a door is not enough; 1.80 m

The orientation of the fitting plays a role with the splashes, if a width of 1m+ is available, the shower can also spray sideways. Our shower is open to the front between wall/wall/sauna wall (so niche) 1.4m, so little splashes come out and we don’t have to clean any glass.
