Hi everyone,

We had our bathroom renovated by a professional 10 years ago. I had already noticed back then that the shower tray has a bit of play when you stand on the edge. This, of course, puts quite a strain on the silicone joints. The craftsman resolved my complaint by using wooden wedges to push the shower tray down as far as possible and thus reduce the play. That worked for a while. However, the time comes when the silicone needs to be renewed. I can do that myself, no problem, but we have already had water in the wall on the floor below twice now and I am considering applying a bathroom waterproofing for the non-tiled parts under the shower tray (wall, floor) with PCI Lastogum to prevent the worst next time. However, the water would then be under the shower tray :(

I would try to stabilize the edges of the shower tray with additional supports.

I’m not a craftsman myself, but I have tiled a guest bathroom myself and done the rest of the interior construction. So I do have some skills.

I would be happy if someone had advice on how to solve the problem. Attached are a few pictures.

Thanks and best regards Christian

We also placed a sanitary acrylic shower tray on a shower base. The tray had quite a bit of play. So we supported the edges with Ytong blocks and fixed them with tile adhesive. It holds perfectly now, the silicone doesn’t pull anymore. That’s what I would do. If I remember correctly, supporting the edges when using shower bases was even required in the installation manual. If that’s also the case for you, the craftsman was grossly negligent.

There are separate metal brackets for the shower trays (almost the entire length of the respective side). That is included mounting material. You are right, you don't put those things just on feet.

Thank you very much for all the helpful answers. I am now a whole lot wiser :)

I will get bathtub edge clamps or brackets. That should solve the problem. It’s really unbelievable what the craftsman botched there.

For sealing, I will probably smooth the floor and lay a sealing mat and sealing tapes for the corners/edges and coat with PCI Lastogum. If the drain and heating pipes allow it. If anyone has an idea how to solve this more elegantly, I’m happy to hear it.

Thanks a thousand times again
Regards
Christian
