I really want to know where your life wisdom comes from and where your incredible sense of mission comes from, trying to impose your bizarre views on everyone here.

We started this year and I am 51 years old. We had visitors at the construction site who wanted to take a look at our house because they want to build again themselves. They were both over 70.
It’s not about age; the financial background is probably much more decisive.

To the OP:
Calculate everything carefully so that you know what you can afford, how long the financing should/can last, and how you want to handle the maturing offspring.
Make that clear to yourselves and then go for it.
You have my full understanding of wanting to get out of this situation. I still shudder at the memory of the homeowners’ meetings for my apartment. I also breathed a sigh of relief when it was over...

As I said, you don't have to put up with it at that age. At least I don't.

... and when you reach a nice age, living in an apartment for the next 40 years that you were already struggling with at 45... Very wise!

The best thing is to describe your financial situation exactly in the financing thread. There you are most likely to find people who can tell you what is possible and what is not. Your concerns probably come from uncertainty. Read up here and get advice. It has nothing to do with age as long as you can still hesitate. ;)

We will be 62 and 59 when our new house is finished then. You can't hang that on age.

Just wait until you reach my age.., do you think your standards will change? I was 45, my husband 55... almost all of them around us have built their homes shortly before or after retirement

Why?
