Good day,
we are facing the exciting and challenging question of which home automation system is most suitable for our purposes.
I have tried to explain below which prerequisites, wishes, and thoughts on this topic already exist and look forward to further input.
Thank you in advance!

Which system?
Somfy was often mentioned and recommended to us.

However, in some aspects I have increasingly noticed that it is advised against. This mainly concerns heating thermostats and switchable sockets.
I was also puzzled by the overall situation of the central components at Somfy. Originally there was apparently the predecessor of the Tahoma Switch, the Connectivity System, as well as a DIN rail system. Allegedly a successor is planned for the latter, but its release is unclear. Overall, therefore, quite an unclear roadmap. Naturally, the plan is to use a future-proof system that will not be discontinued within the next few months.

Additionally, there appears to be no planning security here, as with the current generational changes not only improvements are added but many protocols are also eliminated.

Last but not least, I tried in advance to make inquiries to Somfy support. Unfortunately, this was not successful in any way and thus does not bode well for a potential support case.

Initial situation
The planned project involves retrofitting an existing property. Subsequent installation of flush-mounted cables is therefore to be avoided.

There is LAN cabling throughout the house, which makes it possible to distribute additional range extenders (repeaters, receiver stations, or the designation of each manufacturer) in the house.

Advantages and disadvantages
For us, the question of which systems might be considered as alternatives to Somfy is completely open. In this ignorance, the advantages and disadvantages of the individual systems are also completely unclear.

Ultimately, it is about the system best suited for the scenario described here.

Existing components
Currently, there are a few systems, but they are limited to heating scenarios and switchable sockets.

    [*]Heating thermostats (AVM)
    [*]Switchable sockets (AVM)

So far, the Fritz!box has been used quite universally by us. However, this is changing more and more. Reasons include, on the one hand, switching to higher-quality manufacturers (WLAN with multi-SSID with separate networks for "everything that communicates home to the cloud," vLAN), change of technology or problems and limitations in the AVM world (e.g. DECT over multiple floors, DECT range extenders / repeaters for home automation).

Planned components
Why is the question of the right system currently on our agenda? We are currently planning to purchase awnings for the terrace as well as roof windows. Although these are currently the primary products, we do not want to limit ourselves solely to these.

    [*]Roller shutters (Somfy was recommended)
[*]Markilux awning (Somfy motor was recommended)
[*]Vertical awning Roma (Somfy motor was recommended)
[*]Terrace lighting (24V system with distributor, dimmer, transformer [Hera LED 24 / 75W F and Hera LED 24 Receiver 24V DC 1]), it would be great to be able to replace the entire dimmer transformer combination
    [*]Roto roof windows
[*]Outdoor socket for seasonal outdoor lighting (Christmas, winter)
[*]Switchable socket with measurement of energy consumption (also gladly the other way round measuring energy feed-in)

Desired aspects
We have identified the following aspects as important or desirable for us:

[*]Central component (preferably DIN rail system or similar)
[*]LAN, not just WLAN (system should be in a separate vLAN)
[*]There should be repeaters / range extenders that can preferably be connected via LAN, at least as an option
[*]The use of a manufacturer cloud should be optional as far as possible

Surely something has been forgotten, but presumably this gives a first impression of the underlying idea.

So actually not a smart home, just a few simple helpers. I would actually just install a few Shellys, for example. They use Wi-Fi, but no manufacturer cloud is needed.

As has already written, this project has nothing to do with smart home but is about making a few components remotely controllable. I would also use Shellys and/or combine them with ioBroker or Home Assistant.

I don't quite understand how this:

and this are supposed to fit together.

Either everything is already laid everywhere, then everything seems to be planned for a specific system, or everything has to be newly installed. Alternatively, of course, everything over radio/WLAN, but then that has nothing to do with the DIN rail anymore.

The Shellys would actually be a fairly inexpensive solution. As far as I can see, scenarios can also be triggered there. However, I would miss heating thermostats here.

Where does smart home actually begin? Prospectively, weather sensors might be added to the awnings or roof windows, which then trigger actions like closing windows depending on the weather conditions. For me, that would fall under smart home. In other words, in the first step, the possibility of automatic control is created, and then scenarios and sensors follow.

There is quite extensive LAN cabling in the house. This would make it possible to connect central components of a system or additional range extenders in order not to have to use Wi-Fi.

From my understanding, with modern cabling, all components are indeed wired in a star topology to the central unit. That is not possible and not desired. The smart home components are therefore to be controlled via radio.
