Good evening everyone,

We are currently working on building the terrace.

The house is standing so far. The base slab was built on a gravel layer and the sides of the base slab are accordingly insulated.

Now we have chosen terrace doors that are supposed to allow for a level transition to the terrace.

The terrace should also be built on a gravel/grit layer.

The question arises as to what a proper sealing looks like here.

In front of the existing base slab insulation, we would still install a dimpled membrane to protect the insulation. Additionally, we will create a slope (<5%). What else should be done beyond that?

The exterior plaster has not been applied yet. Therefore, we still have all options here.

P.S. Attached is a picture of the current situation.

Looking forward to your answers.

Regards Andre

One of the most damage-prone areas in house construction.

Under the term "Sockelrichtlinie" you can find possible, sensible implementations on the internet.

This is a complex and damage-prone detail that requires coordination of several trades, especially when it is really supposed to be a so-called "barrier-free" transition between inside and outside, max. with a 2cm threshold. This detail must be developed in advance by an independent planner, who then also takes over the tendering/award to the respective specialist companies and the construction management.

The trades of sealing/plastering/, possibly sheet metal and bending work, and landscaping work must work hand in hand and sometimes in quick succession in several passes to execute the multi-layered details. Unplanned craftsman tinkering and spontaneous decisions on the construction site are really not conducive, which will probably be evident 1-2 years later. What can already be seen now goes exactly in this = wrong direction and should be dismantled.

Our site manager wrote the following:

1.) The red Styrodur will be plastered halfway with the render.
2.) Afterwards, a sealing slurry will be applied on the plaster.
3.) In the area where paving will be installed, roofing felt will be placed against the masonry, which will be cut flush with the paving at the top.

4.) Where there is no paving or only soil/gravel will be placed, it will only be backfilled.
