Do you write down meter readings so that you can quantify the savings? I’m really interested in what the end result will be.

Turning off the underfloor heating completely and heating with the fireplace is not an option? We paid 30€ for the RM of birch (but had to split it ourselves), which roughly converts to 2ct/kWh. So it still pays off even at 3 or 4 times the price for the wood.

Cold feet are extremely uncomfortable for me too. Our office is only 19 degrees as well, but on shady days when I get cold hands and feet, I just go home for remote work ^^

Where else can you still get prices like that? With us, you pay 150-200€ for the RM of hardwood (dry). At that price, the fireplace is no longer worth it either.

No, I don't. I don't have any reference values for the past years on a monthly basis. What I save in the end, I see in the annual statement or the meter reading/consumption there.
I also find these comparisons relatively inaccurate because it also depends on the outside temperature: if we have mild winters, then consumption is also lower.
But you're right: we probably should have simply recorded meter readings monthly over the last years.
Actually, I'm made for such tables, I like writing tables and working with numbers. But then my gene kicks in telling me that you can also complicate life with these things. I'm not autistic, I'd rather spend the time on house designs or other hobbies :D

No. Our wood was really expensive. We save it for something special or for nice weekend evenings. I think we paid €150 per stacked cubic meter. We're not exactly young anymore who see chopping wood as a pleasant pastime ;)

Unfortunately, I have a job that requires presence. At most, I can warm up during a business trip with seat and foot warmers. Or my hands on the coffee cup ;) And if I have to work outside for several hours at 2 degrees, then 19 degrees feels like a summer vacation :D
(I'm already thinking about stashing a hot water bottle at work)

Yes, paying with sore muscles for cutting to length and splitting ^^ We have the wood delivered in 5m rolls and do the rest ourselves. Given the current gas prices, it definitely makes sense to leave out the underfloor heating.

At 20 cents per kWh of gas, we should currently be paying a 360€ monthly advance. At least that was the advance they notified us of. After my objection and submission of the current gas meter reading, the utility company reinstated our old advance.

If we only use gas for hot water and the rest with the stove, then gas costs 22€ per month (annual average with solar thermal support) and about 250-500kg of wood for heating, which would be roughly 15€ - 30€ per heating month.

So even at five times the price you pay for ready split and dried wood, it’s still considerably cheaper than running completely on gas. Even if you lower the room temperature with gas to 20°C, which is already too cold for me.

We still have a fixed price guarantee on gas and hot water via solar :)
