Oh, and of course insulation for the middle, we still needed that. But that was 2017, before the prices exploded.

Hello Winniefred,

Thanks for the tip! That sounds good. Even if it were more in the four-digit range.
We didn’t want to do both conversions, just one.

But without any intervention, the house only has 3 full rooms plus the open attic. And right, we only “need” 4 rooms. (Although you can live with 8 people in one room, as seen in less affluent countries.) But even the 4 rooms are hard to find. 5 rooms would be the oft-cited dream, the decadent, yes, surely undeserved ideal, that’s why I preemptively wrote that argument about rather “waiting for the ideal house.”
By the way, you could do all kinds of things with a fifth room, it wouldn’t be like that. No one lacks ideas there. Even if no child lives in it. Right?
The current owners of the house are increasing in number, by the way, after only 3 years in the first-occupied house, they apparently built the house for one child and a second pregnancy wouldn’t surprise me in that case.
Best regards!

Hello Hausbautraum20,

I thought so. If at all, we would close off the attic room towards the staircase.
Thank you!
Best regards!

Oh, I see. Yes, then the option in the attic is definitely better and definitely not ridiculously expensive. For us, it was also the case that the house would otherwise have had only 2 bedrooms and the gallery. For us, it is now that the children have the 1st floor and we have a large bedroom and a WC with a sink in the attic. With the drywall construction, we also managed to add a small bathroom, but the plumbing was done by the sanitary workers and we only had to connect it.

I would also like to have a 5th room, but our house does not allow for that. It would be practical for guests or for my husband to work from home, etc. But well, such houses were simply not affordable.

Hi Winniefred,

yes, just like with you we would use the rooms! The additional bathroom at your place is of course cool. In the house, the utility room with the heating is under the roof (stupid idea, but maybe necessary because of the photovoltaic system?), so there is already the washing machine connection, meaning the water pipe is already there. But how big the heating system in this room is, I will only know after the inspection.
Best regards!

We have also converted our attic into a spacious master bedroom with a shower bathroom. The two kids each have their own room on the 1st floor, and the third room on the 1st floor is small and narrow, so it has become our dressing room. This way, no large wardrobes are needed in the children's rooms, and the kids have more space. In summer, of course, it is nicely warm up there; we insulated with 18 cm of insulation. Keep that as a disadvantage for the attic in mind. You say it is already converted, so really only a drywall partition and a door are required. I would budget €1,000 for that and have it done by a craftsman.
