Hello everyone,

we are currently reviewing the offer from our carpenter and have noticed that the roof windows were only offered with double glazing. When I inquire a bit, I find that everyone only uses double glazing?

So far, I have learned that there are apparently no condensation problems with triple-glazed windows. However, in winter, the window also no longer stays free of snow.

From an energy perspective, I am unsure whether I should invest the additional 300 euros per window, as otherwise it would be the weakest component in the house. We only have 2 as well, so as always just a small extra cost (but these add up badly).

What have you installed and why?

Thanks Andreas

Our children sleep under skylights that are only double-glazed. In hindsight, clearly the wrong place to have saved money. It is similar with the toilet under the skylight.

The triple-glazed roof windows are somehow insane. We have 6 very large Velux roof windows and have also decided on double glazing (Uw, 1.0). The triple-glazed windows with a Uw of 0.8 would have cost 3000€ more in total – that is the total heating cost over 6 years. The windows would not pay off even after 200 years. We also placed great value on good insulation (windows, walls, roof...), but somewhere there are limits to irrationality.

One thing is the calculation, the other an unpleasant pulling sensation that is alleviated.

The draft is not caused by double or triple glazing but by the continuous seal, which simply does not make the window 100% airtight...

I completely agree with Lumpi... the additional cost is disproportionate

Uiuiui.... in our "kfw70-almost-55-passed-house" we have only double glazing everywhere, of course also on the Velux window. Nowhere is there any draft, and we are still alive, can even look out of the windows in winter.

Clearly, there are items here where you can save the extra costs. Take double glazing

Best regards in brief
