Roof slope at glass passage - is 2 percent realistic?

Good evening dear all,

My wife and I are currently building a house consisting of a main house and an extension. The two elements are to be connected by a glass passage (= 3-sided glass element: so 2 glass walls + 1 glass roof). Now the window company says that they will build this stylish flat roof glass passage with a minimum slope of 10 degrees and cannot make it shallower. Keyword: warranty. Unfortunately, we find that very ugly. We had expected a very flat roof. Our architect says that it should work with a 2 degree slope. Now the glass roof in the middle is supposed to be about half a meter higher than on the outside. So visually more reminiscent of a gable roof than a flat roof.

Can anyone say whether 2 percent is realistic and which manufacturers might offer this?

Thank you very much and best regards!

Without concrete illustration of your words, I would have to consult my dice cup to determine whether you are right or not ...

As a rule, a 2 percent slope is sufficient for draining roof surfaces. However, it is difficult to assess without images/plans. Caution! 2 percent ≠ 2 degrees.

Hello and sorry,

here are two drawings of the glass passage:

Top view:
The glass pane is supposed to slope from the middle (dashed vertical line) towards the two outer panes (approximately where the 20 is each).

Side view:

Thanks for your help!

Best regards,
S.

What exactly are the glazier's concerns? (I would have structural ones, just because of the rain load). What is it supposed to be: armored glass, plexiglass, ...? It looks in the drawing as if it should make the 90° change of direction frameless at the top (mitered?). I wouldn't make a "gable roof" out of it, but a "shed roof," the parapet height would already allow the slope, and 10° hardly bothers (if necessary, you make it a gradient from the main viewing direction). You do realize that you will have to show the house later at least in the house pictures thread, right?

Thank you very much for the tips 11ant. As soon as I have a presentable photo of the house, it will go into the corresponding thread. Regarding your questions: The window fitter wants to build at a minimum of 10 degrees. Below that, he will not provide a warranty. A shed roof is indeed a good alternative. Our architect had also mentioned it once before. So we are hearing that now for the second time... What kind of glass it should be? Good question. We are assuming normal window glass. Have a nice evening, Schubbiano
