Without experience with plastic, I say today: use plastic
No... see: I myself now have problems with a wooden facade (thread "next to" you).
However, I must also say: we have wood in the roof overhang and no defect or anything yet. Ecologically and for the main fuse, I would recommend a high-quality wood!
Everyone who has wood recommended that I use plastic before building the house. The general consensus was that the maintenance effort (especially painting) is simply higher and this causes problems, particularly with the gable.
The surcharge is not worth it for the bungalow because with a step ladder you can reach the eaves and, if painted well, you have 10 years of peace. Gable houses with 1.5 stories... sometimes need scaffolding. Expensive. Therefore, then PVC. K.
I am for wood, I don't like the plastic look (of course, as always, a matter of taste...). I have also seen it yellowing after just a few years on a few houses... No idea if that always happens, but if it does, plastic looks pretty shabby.
This is a real danger. Plastics are often not UV resistant. However, if it is a PVC like the one used in doors/windows, it should be fine. I personally also prefer the wood look.
