: I wouldn't call it a substitute, it's just something different. We used the Knauf Easyputz with 0.5mm grain size. But it really doesn't forgive anything. Blemishes and scratches on the wall seem to show through. The substrate must be very well prepared. Otherwise, we only used it on the walls. We had the ceilings smoothed out by the painter.

Is it only a problem that you can’t reach between the stair steps and the wall with a roller? How about a brush? We worked with a roller up to just above and below the steps and used a brush for the small remaining areas, then roughly 20cm up and down along the steps on the wall again with paint (do you understand what I mean?). That way you couldn’t see any difference between roller and brush. It looked really good

if you advise against the easyPutz, what would you recommend as an alternative to the textured plaster?

Cotton plaster, which is applied with a plastic trowel. Before that, a special primer must be applied.
That’s how our entire stairwell is.

Exactly, like 80s sandpaper. :( Use cotton natural fiber, it is easy to work with and you can stop and continue whenever you want. Repairing is also easy.

..and probably you can get all that off the wall better than that miserable roughcast.
