Recently, I came across the possibility of a so-called hard coal boiler, which works similarly to a pellet boiler (side-mounted bunker, conveyor screw, and burner). So-called pea coal (small hard coal lumps) has a very high energy value and is still inexpensive. The kilowatt hour of heat energy is just over 2 cents with a favorable coal purchase, which seems extremely cheap. The coal is available to buy in 25-kilo sacks on pallets.

Has anyone here already had experience with this type of heating? Unlike lignite, hard coal is said not to emit the typical smell of the DDR/Ruhr area of the 1960s. Is that correct?

How reliable is the operation, and are there any special considerations with the chimney sweep or the approval of such a heating system?

How does it behave regarding dirt? Regularly emptying ash would be okay, and since the coal is packaged in sacks, some dust is likely during storage and filling of the bunker, but otherwise, it should be fine.

Does anyone have experience with specific brands?

Thank you very much for your advice

You could already operate your forest heating back in GDR times. There is quite a lot of dirt and environmental standards are not met. If you have an environmental zone - no chance.

Hello Hello

A few years ago I installed a boiler like that. It was from the company Hansa from Rade. The boiler runs without problems. It does smell a bit though. If the boiler has approval, I do not see Sylvia's objections. As far as I know, an environmental zone also has no influence on the options for selecting the heat generator.

Hello

Sorry for bringing up the topic again but the "housewife" answer is misleading.

1. There are no environmental zones, maybe listen less to tuna PR.

2. These prefab boilers are automatically fed Ekogroszek boilers. These are found all around Germany in many households. Just take a look beyond your own nose.

3. The Ekogroszek boilers easily meet all legal limit values. Current boilers fall short of the requirements by threefold.

4. This type of boiler is not comparable to a GK or Förster boiler from GDR times.

Nothing needs to be ignited or manually refilled. The boiler runs without a pointless buffer storage and modulates from 0.7-40kw (with 25kw nominal output).

5. Nothing smokes at the chimney! Not white, black, yellow, or purple. It also doesn't smell. Whether the boiler is active or inactive cannot be seen at the chimney (flue gas temperature 110°C).

The energy density of Ekogroszek is much higher than that of wood pellets and therefore the costs are many times lower.

The kWh costs about 3 cents.

I know that most "housewives" unfortunately cannot do anything with this information but maybe one or another will use an internet search engine once in a while, not only to look for cat pictures.

Even YouTube is full of videos about this affordable heating technology.

Ekogroszek is delivered in practical 20/25kg foil bags.
