Hello

We need to replace our oil heating system. Since operating a pellet heating system is very simple according to our information, we are leaning towards a pellet heating system.

Who can help us, especially regarding the advantages and disadvantages of a pellet heating system? Or are there better/cheaper alternatives?

Thank you for your help

Hello Rizz

My opinion on cheap heating! Oil is, was, and will also be the cheapest in the future! I also studied pellet heating. And I decided on oil again. Pellets would have become too expensive!

Hello rizz,

converting from oil to pellets is technically quite simple, as you already have a storage room for the pellets - after removing the oil tank. However, a sloped floor would need to be installed and possibly the storage room reduced in size.
Per kilowatt of heating load, 0.9 cubic meters of storage space is required (a heat demand calculation would be appropriate to determine the necessary amount of pellets for a heating period).

The operation of the pellet heating system itself is also not something you need to get used to; it is like oil and gas: automatic ignition, automatic control, and does not require more space.

The ash box must be emptied every 5 to 15 weeks; depending on consumption. The ash can be disposed of in household waste or possibly mixed into the compost.

If you want to make calculations for comparison to address the user's insulation nonsense cost objection:
1 kg of pellets contains 5 kWh of energy. This corresponds to about 0.5 l of heating oil.
The costs for the central heating system itself are almost twice as high as for oil or gas boilers. Whether the lower fuel costs can offset the high acquisition costs must be calculated.

I also came across this question and want to replace our oil heating system. It is already quite old and something new needs to be installed here. So I am interested in a pellet heating system. The initial cost is of course higher, but I think it pays off over the long period of use.

We have combined with a pellet heating system and solar modules. That works really well. We also have no problems with the wood heating and I get the wood locally. Next week I will get a fireplace and then winter can come. I am firmly convinced that various options must be applied here.

So without any ifs or buts, I am strongly leaning towards a pellet heating system. The purchase cost is one thing, but the utility value is much higher in the long run than with oil. This oil price will not stay this low in the long term, I am sure of that. So switch now rather than later.
