hello first of all,

I am new here and have the following question...

Brief description:
My bathroom is covered with "Plätli" up to the ceiling. The ceiling is a rough plaster wallpaper and painted over. Unfortunately, "Stockflecken" have now formed.

Now my question:
I would like to repaint the ceiling. But what should I do with the mold stains? Do I have to treat them with something special beforehand, or can I simply paint over them without any problems?
And would it be better if it is warm weather outside so that it dries better?

I would be happy if someone here could help me.
Best regards Simona

Hello Simona

You should definitely do something about this mold! Because it is not really healthy...

First, remove all the wallpaper and layers of paint. Then buy "Schimmelstopp" from the hardware store. It probably has a different name. It is simply a product in a spray bottle. Let it soak in according to the instructions and ventilate everything well during that time. You should also start thinking about where this mold is coming from?! Do you have windows in the bathroom? Do you ventilate often enough, since it is a damp room?! Or does the moisture come from something else??? A leaking pipe in the wall above the bathroom, for example.

If you remove the old layers of paint etc. and rebuild on a good base, then you will have a great result afterwards – and the effort will have been worth it because it will last a few more years.

Thank you very much for your advice.

This is probably just because we simply shower a lot, since we have a household of 5 people. Until everyone has showered – and not too cold – the kids sometimes forget to tilt the window here and there. But I will now make sure to get such a mold stopper. And then I will paint the ceiling. I don’t know if there will be any stains with this product...

Thank you very much

Schimmel-Ex

Hello Simona

If you have treated the bathroom ceiling with Schimmel-Ex (this is the name I know this stuff by), then you should not paint over it immediately the next day. Better to wait one or two days and keep the bathroom well ventilated during that time. You might even need to apply the product twice.

Good luck

Mold

Hello everyone

We also once had a problem with mold in our rental apartment.
We then rubbed the walls and furniture affected by mold with an acid from the pharmacy. After that, we had no more problems.
However, in this case, the masonry or plaster must be rubbed directly, and for that, the wallpaper must be removed...

The mold must be killed with mold remover, carefully washed off, allowed to dry thoroughly, and then painted over with indeko-W; this reduces or inhibits new formations. If there is no window, it may be that ventilation is not sufficient to get the moisture out! But indeko-W from CAPAROL is very good. Good luck!
