Hello everyone,

I am planning to renovate my old terrace by replacing the old terrace stones with new ones and edging the terrace with border stones (there are currently no border stones). However, I am facing two challenges where I would greatly appreciate your advice and experience:

[*]Problem with bamboo and rhizome barrier: Right next to the existing terrace, I have planted bamboo, which is limited by a rhizome barrier. (see attached photo) My concern is that when dismantling the old terrace, the bamboo along with the rhizome barrier could slip towards the terrace. Additionally, I see a problem in supporting the new border stones with a concrete shoulder, since the bamboo's rhizome barrier is located directly next to it. How should one proceed in such a case? Which techniques or tools do you recommend to ensure stability and keep the bamboo under control?

[*]Different heights of old and new terrace stones: The old terrace stones are 8 cm high, while the new stones are only 6 cm high. Assuming the subsoil of the old terrace is still in good condition, would it be possible to simply add 2 cm of extra gravel, level it, and then lay and compact the new stones on top? Are there risks that the new terrace might not be stable or level?

I am very grateful for any tips, techniques, or experiences you can share with me. How do you best approach such projects, and are there any special considerations or materials I should take into account?

Thank you in advance for your support!

Are the old stones irrevocably worn out? To me, it looks like they just need to be properly scrubbed once with a pressure washer and a bit of [Fit].

Good day and thank you very much for the response. No, the old stones are actually still "good". However, last year we built a second terrace with new stones and now want to use these on the "old" terrace as well, to have a uniform look. We will then pass the old stones on within the family.

Show how visible the new terrace is compared to the old terrace.

Good morning, thank you very much for your answers. So, the old terrace stones should definitely be replaced by the new stones so that the same ones are laid everywhere. The new stones have already been purchased and are already in the garden. And the above-mentioned problems regarding [Rhizomsperre] and the uneven heights unfortunately still exist. Could you perhaps help with this? Thank you very much and have a nice weekend!

Good morning, does this type of bamboo really need a rhizome barrier!? Isn't this a [Fragesiasorte]?
