Hello, I will start renovating the parental home soon. Built in 1954 with bricks, 1975 extension with Ytong, basement, the location was once a moor area, meanwhile the groundwater level has been lowered even further, the basement is dry or there are no moisture problems. An appointment with an energy consultant is in two weeks, but I didn’t want to go there unprepared. Also because some experts are sometimes very one-sided. In the course of the new pipes, I would dig around the building anyway and insulate at the same time. As far as I can see, the structure is masonry - moisture barrier - XPS or similar state of the art? What kinds of sealing are there? As for the rest of the masonry, I am not quite sure. At the trade fair, I saw Poroton WDF, looks serious, but the insulation values don’t seem to be the best, especially compared to the costs, am I right or wrong? Glass and rock wool don’t really appeal to me, so as an alternative I would be interested in wood fiber boards Steico / Gutex? Is that any good or are there other alternatives? Of course, I understand that a professional still needs to take a close look, but I would be interested in your experiences with this. I don’t want the house to start to mold. Thanks

Do you want to insulate from the inside or the outside? Should the basement be livable? What is the ceiling height in the basement? Is it planned to install a drainage?

Hello,
insulate from the outside, not habitable, ceiling height just over 2 meters, the basement protrudes about 1 meter above the ground, and yes, a drainage will be installed afterwards again.

Okay... From the outside, you have to look at what appeals to you. There are options for a curtain facade, through which you can insulate well yourself with your own work. You can also use WDVS. Either with plaster, or glued strips. There are also ready-made panels that you assemble like a puzzle. So be clear about what you want, then decide. The roof overhang also plays a role here. It often happens that the roof needs to be extended accordingly.

I would only waterproof the cellar from the outside, without insulating. You will insulate the facade anyway over the cellar ceiling. Then I would insulate the cellar ceiling. For example with aluminum-coated PUR. It already has good insulating properties at a low thickness. It can be glued, holds well, and costs about 1000€ in DIY.

: Well summarized.
An addition regarding the topic of roof overhang. It may be worthwhile to leave the roof as it is and use insulation with high efficiency. With resol insulation, between 80 and 100mm are sufficient to meet the energy saving ordinance (WLG 22).

And what about dew point, condensation, "breathing," etc. that you always hear about? The gable of the first floor is already "insulated" with Styrodur or something similar, nothing is molding there, but I also know others who had black walls after the insulation, so I wanted to gather some impressions.
