Absolutely! Existing buildings that have been reasonably maintained or professionally and innovatively renovated/refurbished can be wonderful homes that - depending on expectations and investment - can certainly compete with one or the other new build. In addition, one often - but not always - gets a larger plot with mature vegetation and on top of that a house with (its) own history.

Generalizations in every respect merely reveal the ignorance and lack of ability to differentiate of the person making the judgment.

I can only underline that. We are currently refurbishing a house whose origins date back to 1853 and I simply love it when we discover, prepare, and preserve little stories.

But -> I believe existing buildings can become unhappy if you actually want a new build and if you don’t have the financial means to design the existing property according to your wishes.
