Hello everyone, I’m trying my luck in this forum. We will soon be moving into our condominium. We have an open kitchen, where 6 recessed lights were planned, evenly distributed according to my instructions and so that the two middle lights are also in the middle of the room. I measure the middle of the room from the kitchen cabinet to the wall. The electrical planner apparently measured from the kitchen cabinet to the window. As a result, today the recessed lights are not visually centered in the room but shifted by about 15 cm. The construction management says: tough luck, nothing can be done about it. Since this is very visually disturbing, I am looking for simple, affordable solutions to shift 4 of the 6 lights by about 15 cm without having to redo everything, because the plaster is already on the ceiling, everything is painted, the kitchen is in place... and the budget is now very limited... Thanks for good tips. Regards VOD

Hello VOD,

the lights can definitely still be relocated.
You remove the existing ones, pull the cables out of the ceiling as far as possible, make grooves in the plaster of the ceiling, mill new openings for the lights in the correct place.
Then the previous openings are converted into junction boxes, cables are laid from there to the new openings, and the new lights are installed.
The junction boxes then either have a cover that is visible (but not necessarily annoying) or the old openings are closed/plastered over.
If the lights have individual transformers, it is best to keep them in the old opening and only lay new cables.

The effort for this is relatively high but can certainly be in good proportion to the desired result.
Have the electrician provide you with a quote.

Good evening, thank you for the input. We are a bit wary of the financial expense and even more so of the dirt and the risk that something else might get damaged. Therefore, we have now decided on the [Spanndecke] option. In a few weeks, we will know exactly how well we made this choice. Best regards VOD

That is also a solution. You can report back once it is finished.
