Good day,

I built a house in 2006-2007, all as a self-build with friends and family. Unfortunately, I became seriously ill during the construction period and could not finish my build. I was bedridden for many years and was only recently operated on. Now I am doing relatively well again, but I have a problem with the exterior wall. Because when I became ill, we had just reached the insulation stage of the house. The insulation (12cm) was still applied to the bricks and one side of the house was finished with the reinforcing mesh. The remaining walls were then exposed to the weather for several years. The insulation is no longer white but already yellowed. Now I wonder whether I can still apply the reinforcing mesh on the insulation and later the plaster, or whether the insulation must be completely replaced?

I hope I was able to express myself clearly ;-)

so normally something like that shouldn't matter, but I would apply a primer here beforehand that can both bind dirt and grime and also ensure better adhesion of the plaster. Of course, you should also check beforehand whether a lot of moisture has gotten behind the insulation, that would be more problematic

I also think that there should be no problem here, as long as the insulation is still firmly attached to the wall and no water has run behind it, as Paule writes, clean, primer, and plaster

I think that will not matter. The insulation must be firm. Then apply primer and apply the plaster. Everything could go smoothly in the process.

It was similar with an acquaintance and that worked well too. The important thing is that no water got behind it. Otherwise, there are big problems.

Yes, I know that too and I was also lucky that no water got behind the insulation. This way, the insulation could stay and I applied a primer. Then the new plaster was applied.
