Dear forum,

today we sampled parquet and in this context were pointed out by the seller to a new type of wooden floor from the company Hywood. Allegedly, the floor is significantly more resistant to dirt, scratches, and moisture due to its processing. The manufacturer claims that it can even be installed in bathrooms. Furthermore, the floor does not need to be oiled regularly - compared to parquet. In addition, it is also about 20 euros cheaper per m2 - compared to the parquet we prefer. Since we have small children and want to lay the parquet in the kitchen and dining room as well, this sounds interesting to us.

Does anyone have experience with such floors?

I have no experience with that.
My assessment:
Such composite materials are always materials mixed with plastic.

We have plastics down to the depths of the oceans, and we should produce as little of it as possible or release it into the world.

Wood is wonderful and has its charm, WEIIL it is what it is.
This includes taking care of it.
That is a task that reminds you what really matters in life.

:)

Well, if I have to choose between a natural wooden floor and this micrometer-thin design layer made of wood + who knows what mixed with resins, the decision is easy for me...
This is better laminate at a significantly higher price. Just like design flooring is the more expensive version of vinyl

Hello "Hendrik". Regarding the topic you asked about, I would like to contribute the following: The product "Hywood" is manufactured by the producer "ter Hürne" in Südlohn, NRW. The term "Hybridboden" sounds revolutionary, but it is not! About 25-30 years ago, this type of flooring plank already existed, only back then it was called (not standardized) "Furnierböden". As today, a mostly 0.15 mm thin veneer layer was glued and sealed on top of a carrier material (in the case of Hywood this is, according to specifications, an MDF board). I would not classify this type of covering as "Echtholzboden", Hybridboden sounds unobtrusive and in case of doubt one can justify the "real wood" with the thin veneer. However, this type of covering does not mutate into Parkett! Whether this type of flooring can also be used in wet rooms, I do not know. In the product data sheet, this intended use is definitely not explicitly mentioned. The reason why one hardly heard anything about veneer floors for a long time is probably due to a) the low scratch resistance and b) the impossibility of surface renovation. Just like with laminate floors. Since veneer floors are always delivered with a seal, it is also understandable that oiling and waxing (as more or less required maintenance) must be omitted. ------------------- Every type of covering certainly has its justification for existence. You just have to weigh the advantages against the disadvantages. However, this includes knowing the material properties. The sales price is certainly linked to the material properties to some extent. You cannot expect a high-quality floor covering suitable for heavy-duty commercial conditions for "cheap money". The decision for or against a purchase must be made by each person alone after appropriate consideration. ----------------------- I hope my comments have shed some light on the darkness of knowledge, Regards and good luck: KlaRa

Wow! Thank you for the detailed explanation and the great assessment! Our construction manager had expressed himself more briefly but came to a similar conclusion. We have now decided on real parquet. Moreover, we were told from several sources that parquet does not necessarily have to be oiled every 2-3 years, but that it would be sufficient to wipe it damp with soap, which would also make the surface meld together over the medium term. Here we were referred to local examples in inns that were equipped with parquet and are only oiled very irregularly.
