Hm, full moon...

A rampaging bat swarm?

Well, we're just going to replant now - this time with thorns :D and see what happens.

Strange, we live neither by the forest nor directly on the edge of town...

Regards,

Dirk

Just spoke with the neighbors, who had casually mentioned such devastation before. Same picture as you described.

Raccoon family identified as the cause, especially after the basement was also ravaged. The basement needed a complete overhaul after the raccoon family secretly moved into the guest room last autumn.

Oh yes, we live right in the city center but next to a park-like property where a family of foxes also lives. Mr. Fox can be seen around 6:00 PM in winter going to get dinner.
We seem to have no visits from fox or raccoon only because of our dog, thank God.

Oh, even the cats in the neighborhood are enough to destroy the beds for us. They happily roll around in them, dig, and sometimes even dig up and carry away plants.

Rabbits also like to dig up freshly planted flowers. I haven't found anything effective against it yet; it seems to help for a few days if you sprinkle horn shavings on the bed. But eventually, the critters come back anyway. They can dig under any bushes they want, but just not always in the flower bed.
