Hello,

we are faced with the choice of two wooden front doors.
I find it difficult to compare the offers with each other. I hope that you can help me assess so many of the mentioned features of the offers and possibly even compare the offers.

I am mainly interested in the major differences.

Both offers are visually almost identical and can be considered equivalent in terms of construction.
Both offers include measurement, delivery, and installation.

Offer1:
- 78mm eff. Meranti
- 3x color finish with Sikkens white
- triple insulating glass
- active leaf with triple locking system "AS 2600" with 2x round bolts and 2x hook bolts each in one secondary box
- lower sealing with stop rail
- sealing on the inside and outside towards the masonry without internal cover strips
- front shell for mounting the door in the insulation area of the masonry / clinker, supplied and installed
- outer push handle
- rosette handle set made of stainless steel, consisting of an inner handle welded at the mitre and a security rosette with pull protection for the cylinder on the outside
- hinge side security devices
- mechanically self-locking front door lock, GU Security automatic
- U-value of the front door is 1.215

Offer2:
- Version in IV88
- Profile 4 with 88mm construction depth; wood type Red Grandis FSC certified +500kg; 4-layer laminated 88mm thick.
- Door leaf in frame construction with upright continuous adjustable anti-warp reinforcement on the lock side.
- Surface finish with environmentally friendly water-based paints.
- 5-point locking system with bolts and hook locks made of hardened steel.
- Silent catch for quiet door closing.
- As a counterpart to the lock, the frame has a continuous locking strip made from a steel U-profile integrated into the frame.
- 4 pieces of 3D adjustable heavy-duty recessed hinges for effortless door adjustment on site.
- Lock faceplate, locking strip and hinges
- Thermally separated aluminum threshold EV 1 anodized.
- triple insulating glazing U-value 0.7 as clear glass pane.
- Thermally insulated filling made of 45mm sandwich panel with inner and outer 12mm plywood doubling and profiled edge.
- High-quality silicone gasket running all around on one level in the overlap of the leaf frame on all four sides.
- Due to the IV88 version now: double all-around leaf gasket made of high-quality silicone.
- Additional 3-sided seal on the outside in the frame
- Leaf bottom with a sweep seal for rain tightness.
- Due to IV88 version now: leaf bottom with additional large sweep seal for rain tightness.
- Total U-value of the door approx. 1.1 W/m²K
- Front door push handle
- Inner handle hole part PZ rosettes with core pull protection
- Threshold widening made of 40mm SB phonotherm board, 170mm high
- Automatic lock with bolt latch and hook lock. The hook lock can be additionally “consciously” locked using the key.

My assessment:
- Offer 2 (originally only 68mm thick with overall U-value 1.3, now adapted as IV88 version) is 10mm thicker than Offer 1.
- The U-value for Offer 2 is 0.115 better
- both types of wood are comparable, Meranti is probably somewhat more sustainable

For the rest I have to pass. Is anything significant missing in one offer that the other already has? Is something missing in both? What is particularly good compared to the other offer?

Thank you very much for your help.

In the woodworker.de forum I received answers that helped me with my decision-making.

My conclusion:

"
I ultimately decided on the more expensive door.

Obviously, it was also a gut feeling. I tossed a coin and didn’t like the result, so I chose the other one, which was the more expensive door.
I suspect the better feeling mainly comes from
- slightly better equipment
- invented the door
- original look with all the details and not just replicated from a photo

The money is a lot, but so far it doesn’t hurt.
In addition, I have found that most providers (in every area, not just front doors) usually also agree to a 2-3% discount.

...If option 2 is the more expensive one, you did everything right!

But if both are not much different...
