Hello, I have a question..

We will soon be taking over a semi-detached house, where we will be adding quite a bit. The houses are only built the same at the front; at the back, the neighbor's house is longer than ours. About 2 meters.

The house is currently completely painted "orange" (exterior facade), but we would like to paint it white. Our terrace will be at the back, where his house is 2 meters longer, so there we have the neighbor's house wall.. Now my question, can we also paint his side that faces us (his rear house wall) white? Otherwise it would look very strange..

And another question, he has installed a satellite dish on this rear house wall (the wall that faces us), if our terrace is there, we will see this "ugly" dish, since it then extends onto our side. Can we demand that he move it to the roof?

Before I talk to the neighbor myself, I wanted to get some information here first... I hope you could understand me, it's hard to describe..

Best regards

Hello,

You really are a sweetheart

That does not mean that you are allowed to build an extension – you should ask the building authorities first and obtain permission.

If your neighbor were to design your property according to his ideas, would you find that okay? Of course, you are not allowed to change the wall without his explicit permission!

You looked at the house carefully before you bought it, right? And since this will be the case, you also knew that there was a dish there. Now you come as the “newcomer” and want to impose your ideas on your neighbor? Great, that will make for a good neighborhood when you start nagging right away.

And one more hint on the side: if you really want to apply to the building authorities for an extension of your house towards the garden, you will probably need your neighbor’s consent. I would therefore strongly consider whether you want to break porcelain or value a good neighborhood.

Kind regards

The semi-detached house belongs to my grandmother and yes, I have looked at it closely

I also know the neighbor quite well...
He also knows about our plans..

Of course I will ask him beforehand before I stand at his door with my lawyer *Spaß*
It’s clear that I want to avoid something like that...

In the end, it’s only about a key and a piece of facade paint, which we will of course pay for...

We are definitely allowed to extend, an extension was already made back then, we are just widening it. The length remains. We are widening from 4m to 7m in width.. The house is 15m long and his is 17m.

It’s only about cosmetic defects here.. I don’t want to have a dispute with him either, he is actually quite agreeable, but I think he can be different too
