Protect windows from outside with "iron bars" against burglary

Hello dear people,

I have a total of 3 wide, but not high, basement windows without roller shutters. Through these, a potential burglar, if slim enough, could break the glass and enter my terraced house. I want to prevent this in advance in the hope that the aforementioned burglar will then move on to my disliked neighbors and clear them out.

I have exterior thermal insulation on the house, which also causes the windows to be recessed about 20 cm inward. I don’t want to just screw a grate onto the house wall from the outside, as that looks too much like a prison to me. My plan is to saw a typical stainless steel handrail (maybe 8 cm diameter) and place it centrally in front of the window, horizontally or two vertically.

Is this a good idea? How do I best install it? Should I use a hammer and chisel to break open the thermal insulation and the plaster/stone, lay the bar "inside," and then plaster over everything with gypsum so that the bar can no longer be removed? Except of course, the slim burglar also has a long chain and an all-wheel-drive SUV, then none of this helps.

I hope you can understand my problem and would be very happy to receive your tips!

Christian

...that all sounds very amateurish!

Everything that is mounted as grilles or protective devices must be fixed into the masonry.

Either by using anchor bolts or glued threaded rods.

Before the burglar laughs himself to death, please consult the local metalworker.

So the goal would be achieved. No break-in – burglar laughed himself to death. But honestly, here I would rather have something made or possibly get advice.

Why not from the inside? Then you don't have to partially destroy the insulation/facade.

I agree with the others so far. As you describe it, the burglar coughs strongly and the parts fall off.

However, then you have the problem that you can no longer open the window. Unless you build the protection so that it can be opened or removed.

Hello MaxPower90

I planned the security of my house in cooperation with the [Polizeilichen Beratungsstelle]. There was a very competent person at work who also took my wishes into account as much as possible. And he also knew a lot about the subject. Just inquire. Normally, he also comes out.
Another advantage: all of this costs nothing.
