For our single-family house, we are planning a concrete staircase. Covering it with wood should cost about 5300 euros at the carpenter (concrete staircase extra).

That is really too much for us. Do you have any ideas on how to design or treat the concrete staircase differently so that we can save costs? Tiles are out of the question, we simply don't like them. Has anyone of you just painted the concrete staircase? I am grateful for any suggestions, preferably with a photo.

I would like that. But is it cheaper than the 5300 euros for tiles with wood from the carpenter?

I don't have the offer for the stairs on hand right now, as it went through the architect digitally. But what are you expecting? A nice covering at hardware store prices? Then you'll have to do it yourself... We could also have made the stairs with the parquet seen in the picture. But that would have been more expensive. And in my opinion, not as nice. Paint? No idea. My layman's feeling says it wears off.

Thank you for the response. The question was whether anyone has an idea how we can save some money while achieving an appealing result. With construction costs, compromises are probably necessary somewhere. We visually like the concrete look, of course the raw concrete still needs to be treated. I will continue researching.

I am a bit confused! If you like the concrete look, then why do you want to paint the staircase or cover it with wood?

If you prefer wooden treads, then why not forget the concrete staircase. There are many possibilities and some are definitely cheaper than a concrete staircase clad in wood.

I don't think the concrete staircase can be used like that in the living area without any treatment, so it would have to be at least painted, at least clear. Yes, we generally like the concrete look, but from the beginning it was planned to cover the staircase with wood to match the laminate on the ground floor and upper floor. Only the quoted price makes us a bit doubtful and we had hoped to get some tips for alternatives.
