Pay attention to no or few welds on the railing, to the right and left of it are the heat-affected zones, which tend to rust. Everything screwed and bent is more durable, small parts preferably made of V4A, 1.4404, 1.4435

Ok, we live inland, that's already quite good.

And do you know which alloy should be avoided?

Wow, I already see, the topic is not so simple. So I have to rely on the metalworker and hope that he does the work meticulously.

Anyone who wants to read a bit themselves should search for "Informationsstelle Edelstahl Rostfrei." In leaflet 828 on page 5, you can find a nice overview.

Specifying alloys is difficult because you often have to see what is actually available on the market or in stock.

Specifying alloys is nonsense. The real V2A is 1.4301. There is also 1.4305, which is easier to machine, but strictly speaking it is no longer called V2A. That means "real V2A does not come in different alloys, as it is a very specific material.

V4A is 1.4571 and nothing else. 1.4404 is also well known, which is easier to cold form (e.g. deep drawing - container construction). Both materials are salt-resistant (actually chlorine) and therefore seawater-resistant.

Salty air - as is common on the coast - can cause surface rust on V2A, but also other aggressive things. However, V2A is still fully suitable for outdoor use without seawater contact. The surface rust will not corrode the metal during its lifetime and can, for example, also be removed.

Payday, yet it is not nice. You buy, like us, in a specialty store, not on ebay from Shanghai, stainless steel wall lamps for outdoors, and the stainless steel suddenly after some storms is full of rust spots, while the stainless steel parts on our ship are clean and pristine.

On ships, V4A is probably used. Otherwise, it is often the case that inferior stainless steels are used.

Specialist dealers have absolutely nothing to do with quality. Most of the time, lack of verifiability is combined with price fixing, and that's it. Technical articles are often only available from specialist dealers, so there are, for example, no reviews/experiences with them online. The disadvantages are therefore only discovered later, such as poor steel quality. Stainless steel, for example, does not like being contaminated with regular steel at all. Stainless steel is ruined, for example, if steel is welded or ground nearby. Sparks and so on...
