We have a groundwater heat pump, an electric heater for hot water, and a 10kW solar system with a 25 kWh storage.

Now in winter, the solar system practically brings nothing. The electricity demand comes from the grid.
The system shows the electricity consumption per day.

What I do not understand about these curves is the electricity demand around 4:00 AM. At this time we are sleeping, and except for the heat pump, basically no electricity is needed. I do not know of any timer that switches something on at this time.

What could that be?

Best regards
Bernd

Wow, how did that happen?

You have a high electricity consumption, I would also be interested to know where it is needed. Put a Shelly on the heat pump and then you can see what it is drawing.

I do not understand your entire curve. Why so many cycles around 5kW-7.5kW? And so many peaks around 5kW? And such a high total consumption? What kind of house? What kind of heat pump? What kind of settings? I would expect a curve like this - heat pump from one to eleven. Car at 14 and hot water from 7 pm.

Then I’ll start with photovoltaics + battery.
Hopefully you are planning an expansion of the photovoltaics to at least 30 kWp so that the battery gets "feeding"? Otherwise, it will not only stand still in winter but also get damaged.

And hopefully you were told beforehand that photovoltaics don’t produce "nothing" in winter, but clearly less than in summer. You can see these typical generation curves everywhere.

Do you have continuous hot water circulation? (in my opinion, that’s a comfortable energy wastage)
Then maybe set the circulation pump timer to the period that is actually needed.
Or the hot water storage tank cools down enough after the evening shower due to the incoming cold "mixing water" that it is already reheated at 4 a.m. so that you can shower warm in the morning?

And last but not least: What does the installer say about it?

Photovoltaic yields are very low from November to February. Today I had a yield of 3.5 kWh and that was already a lot. Therefore, you mostly heat your heating system and your hot water electrically at temperatures around the freezing point. That is expensive and physics cannot be tricked.

I also don't find a consumption of 50 kWh that high. It is the total daily electricity consumption for a house. The problem is rather the electricity price in Germany. It is 10 times higher than in Norway and 3 times more expensive than in Austria.

However, you need very little electricity from the grid in the remaining 8 months, so this balances out again quite a bit. I would rather worry that the electricity price will continue to rise. The grid fees are rising dramatically, and you hear that the [Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz Umlage] will be reintroduced.

Increasing consumption and decreasing supply just raise the prices.

The only help is to lower the heating and shower less. Everything else costs money.
