The answer is quite simple, no you are not allowed to remove the clamps. A rafter roof is a system with a foot point with horizontal and vertical supports and a ridge point as a hinge, e.g. as a scarf joint or like in your case with a floating ridge purlin and the double clamps. Can you change it, yes, if you turn your rafter roof into a load-bearing purlin roof, which means purlins with supports arranged underneath.
Hello HwTigger, thank you very much. And indeed my term "rafter roof" has already been corrected to "purlin roof." The ridge purlin in our case is load-bearing, and was even partially reinforced on both sides with laterally attached U-profiles in 1980 (out of fear)...
The clamps have remained, still at half their original thickness. This way we can build the horizontal ceilings about 7 cm higher, above all the windows. The triangular construction is kept as a precaution, albeit also with half the robustness.
