Plants, grasses as privacy screens

Good afternoon,

I would like to place plants as a privacy screen on a terrace in a row of troughs that are at most 40 cm narrow. The height is limited to about 150 cm by an awning.

Grasses, etc. would be nice, but of course they should not only reach a size in midsummer at which they function as a privacy screen.

Does anyone have tips on which types/plants are suitable here?

Difficult. Grasses are mostly cut back in spring. Presumably, bamboo would meet your requirements.

I would also recommend bamboo. Either Fargesien, but be careful not to choose any varieties that will bloom soon. Or Phyllostachys, but definitely with a root barrier.

I am really looking forward to growing the pipevine (Aristolochia macrophylla) with us, I know some in the surrounding allotment gardens who use it. They have great large leaves, grow very fast, and can be grown in containers.

I would have suggested that too, but it needs to be cut and takes time to grow back.
